A narrow paved lane in an old Provençal village, tall façades on both sides, no vehicles and nobody about.

AREA

Riquier

Riquier is a district of small flats and long tenancies. People often live here for thirty or forty years in the same place, and what reaches us tends to come from a social worker or a worried neighbour rather than from an estate.

The buildings

Old buildings of four or five floors, one to three-room flats, vaulted cellars close to the water table. Damp in the cellars is structural: anything stored there for years carries the mark of it.

The access problem

Narrow but driveable streets; parking is difficult on market mornings. The real constraint is the staircase, which tightens above the second floor, and landings too small to set anything down while waiting.

A job typical of this area

A gradual declutter of an occupied flat, at a relative’s request and with the occupant’s agreement. Several short visits rather than one long day, sorting done with them, disinfection at the end. The aim was not to empty the place but to make it liveable again.

An illustrative case, reconstructed from real work. Nothing that could identify a person or an address is published.

How long it takes

Two to four days for a full clearance of a small flat. A gradual declutter is measured differently: in visits, over two to four weeks, at whatever pace the person can manage.

Observed duration for this kind of property. It depends on the volume, the state of the place, and when the written instruction reaches us.

The foot of a stone staircase in an old building, steps hollowed by use, pale stone walls, no lift.

Tell us where the property is.

We know the local obstacle before we arrive: the lane no van can enter, the hill road, the residence where access depends on the building manager. You do not have to be in France for us to start.
